What is BHRT Compounding?

BHRT, or Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy, Compounding is a custom made preparation made by a pharmacy according to a doctor’s prescription for addressing hormonal imbalances. Bioidentical hormones may be very helpful for people who suffer from a hormonal imbalance or who might not produce enough hormones naturally.

What Are Bioidentical Hormones?

Hormones are the body’s chemical messengers produced by the endocrine glands as well as the testes and ovaries. They travel through the bloodstream and affect different organs and functions. Bioidentical hormones are made to be biologically identical to the hormones produced by the body.

Bioidentical hormones is a rather open term, and some related terms are natural hormones which source their hormones from plant based sources.

What Is Compounding?

In a nutshell, compounding is the process of formulating and making medicine that is calibrated to a patient’s particular needs as requested or instructed in a doctor’s prescription.

Compounded medications can only be made by compounding pharmacies, and even then, they go through a rigorous process to ensure purity. Unlike over-the-counter medications, compounded medicine always needs a doctor’s prescription so pharmacists would be able to calibrate and customize the medication for the patient.

Compounding can also change the form of how the medication can be applied into not just pills and tablets but also creams, gels, injectables, and more. Compounding also customizes the ingredients so as to avoid allergens and adverse reactions.

Compounded Bioidentical Hormones

BHRT Compounding has been used to help address women’s hormonal imbalances as well as men’s health issues.

More generally, bioidentical hormones are used to address menopause symptoms such as:

  • Brain fog
  • Bladder problems
  • Hot flashes
  • Irritability
  • Pain during sex
  • Sleeping problems
  • Vaginal dryness

BHRT may also help with other hormone related symptoms, such as:

  • Memory loss
  • Mood swings
  • Night sweats
  • Low energy levels
  • Weight gain

Depending on the specific symptoms, you may consult with a specialist to find the best solution to address these symptoms. For example, a low sex drive may be helped with a compounded arousal cream that contains appropriate hormones such as oxytocin. Creative solutions to men’s hormone problems such as Erectile Dysfunction (ED) are also available.
